32-year-old Army captain Florent Groberg received the Medal of Honor on Thursday for his role in the prevention of further damage in a suicide bombing in August 2012. Groberg is the 10th living service member awarded the nation’s highest honor for battlefield bravery in Iraq or Afghanistan. During the attack, Groberg restrained a suicide bomber from detonating two bombs that would have killed his unit on an Afghan bridge in Kunar Province. At the award ceremony, Groberg dedicated his medal to the families of those killed.
