Obama talks with African leaders on South Sudan crisis

President Obama arrived in Ethiopia on Sunday, becoming the first U.S. president to visit the country. On Monday, he met with a number of African leaders to discuss the crisis in South Sudan. The leaders of Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia were present, as well as the chairwoman of the African Union and the foreign minister of Sudan. There is an upcoming August 17 deadline to reach a peace and power-sharing deal. If this deal is not reached, the U.S. and other nations plan to increase pressure on South Sudan’s warring factions, with the possibility of imposing sanctions and an arms embargo.
