Second prison escapee shot and captured

After three weeks, the manhunt for two escaped New York prisoners ended on Sunday when an officer shot and detained David Sweat. His companion, Richard Matt, was shot and killed on Friday. Police Sergeant Jay Cook saw Sweat in the woods and chased him. When the sergeant feared that Sweat would disappear into the trees, he fired two shots, hitting the escapee in the torso twice. David Sweat was found near Constable, NY, sixteen miles north of Matt’s location and only a mile from the Canadian border. Sweat is currently at Albany Medical Center and listed in critical condition.
