The The National Air and Space Museum has surpassed its goal in its crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to conserve the spacesuit Neil Armstrong wore on the moon. Armstrong’s spacesuit has deteriorated and hasn’t been on display since 2006. The campaign on Kickstarter aimed to raise $500,000 to conserve the spacesuit, digitize it with 3D scanning, and build a climate-controlled display case for it. This goal was surpassed by nearly $220,000. The extra money will be used to conserve Alan Shepard’s Mercury spacesuit.
