U.S. and Turkey begin to plan ‘safe zone’ to free northern Syria from ISIS

The U.S. and Turkey have begun plans to free northern Syria from ISIS.  The plan would create a ‘safe zone’ which would secure Turkey’s border and give asylum to displaced Syrians. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said that neither the U.S. nor Ankara has plans to send ground troops into Syria. No agreement has been finalized, and the details of the plan have not yet been revealed. Turkey has been conducting air strikes against the Kurdish militias in northern Syria.  The U.S. considers these Kurdish militias as allies against ISIS, whereas Turkey regards them as a security threat.
