1,500 Syrian refugees have been cleared to resettle in the United States since the Middle Eastern country broke out in civil war in 2011. The United States has been facing heavy pressure to admit more refugees; millions have escaped the unstable countries of the Middle East and Africa seeking refuge in Europe and neighboring countries, and tens of thousands have sought haven in North America. President Barack Obama has allotted about $4 billion to relief agencies, and has decided to admit 10,000 more refugees beginning October 1st.
