Veteran detained after Facebook posts seeks to revive lawsuit

Brandon Raub, a former Marine who was involuntarily detained in a psychiatric facility after posting menacing anti-government Facebook messages, has filed a petition to revive his lawsuit in which he claimed that the mental health screener who recommended his detention was violating his constitutional rights. U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson dismissed the lawsuit, and a three-judge panel of 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the ruling. Raub was investigated by Federal and local authorities in 2012 after the FBI was contacted about Raub’s Facebook rants, including messages such as “This is the start of you dying,” and “Sharpen my axe; I’m here to sever heads.” The petition to revive the lawsuit was filed on Wednesday.
