Washington, D.C. area is sinking, flooding forecasted

0

According to a recent geological study published in the journal GSA Today, the entire Washington, D.C. region is slowly sinking due to a subsurface land movement beneath the Chesapeake Bay. A massive ice sheet to the north of the District has caused the land of the area to rise. Now that the ice sheet has melted, the area is sinking. They predict it will sink by 6 to 8 inches over the next century. Another possible factor is the changing climate and rising sea level, which may lead to flooding problems.
