Investigators believe that the Office of Personnel Management security breach compromised personal information of 21.5 million people, including those who work for the government and their relatives. The hackers stole information from the security clearances applications of 19.7 million employees. The OPM originally estimated that the breach only affected 4 million people. Republicans of the House of Delegates have requested that President Obama remove OPM Director Katherine Archuleta. A senior administration official said Thursday that Obama stands by Archuleta. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told CNN that the “leading suspect” in the breach is China.
