The D.C. Fire Department has removed seven of its 17 ladder trucks from service to be repaired after the trucks failed inspection. These trucks were found to have ruse at the base of the ladder support, and they will not return to service until the problem has been fixed, said the department Sunday night. Inspections of the ladders are reported to occur regularly, but no information was given on how often that happens, nor how often the trucks are deployed. The ladder trucks remaining in service will rotate through locations in the District, and staff will be increased on operational trucks. Fire departments in neighboring Prince George’s and Montgomery counties are prepared to help in an emergency.
